Setting up Tax locations in QuickBooks POS
You would need to do this if you have chosen the either tax calculation options in eCC Desktop of:
My online store calculates tax
and especially if you have chosen: Let QuickBooks calculate tax
Creating tax locations in QuickBooks POS
Step 1: In QB POS go to File->Preferences->Company and select the sales tax menu area.
Step 2: Add a tax location specifically for online store orders
You likely have a tax location already created in your POS to calculate tax within your Brick and Mortar store.
That's great, but you will also need a specific tax location to calculate tax for purchase not made in your location or state. Which is the reason why a specific tax location should create for online orders.
Step 3: Creating the tax location in QB POS
a. Below is an example of the tax name:
b. Tax code that appears on the sales receipt
c. Single-rate tax which is for the online orders tax. This will always be a single-rate tax.
d: Tax rate percentage
This is the tax rate that is currently being calculated in your online store at the time of sale.
Tip: This online store tax location rate in POS must match the tax percentage you have created in your online store. Check in your online store if you are unsure what this is.
Step 4: Click on finish and your new tax location will appear in the tax location area in QB POS.
This is also the same procedure for creating specific out-of-state tax locations in QuickBooks POS if you are using QuickBooks to calculate the tax.
What happens in QuickBooks POS
When QuickBooks calculates the tax of an online store order, it appears in the tax field of a sales order.
