Before Installing eCC Desktop: Best Practices for QuickBooks POS users

If you are using QuickBooks POS, you know that the Point of Sale system houses the entire database of items in your brick and mortar store. When you bring eCommerce into this flow, there are several infrastructure aspects that you need to consider to ensure eCC Desktop can be in full working order. 

1) Where do you want eCC Desktop installed?
Some clients install eCC Desktop on their POS machine and others have a computer in the "back office" and install eCC Desktop in that location. We recommend installing eCC Desktop on a separate computer from the one that is running POS. This allows the merchant to be free to attend to the walk-in customers on the POS machine and fulfill online orders without interrupting either process.  

Tip: This computer should also have QB POS on this computer to initialize the connection. 

2) Networked Environment
Since it is best to install eCC Desktop on another computer, that computer must be connected to the network the POS machine is in. eCC Desktop must connect to the POS server to get product information and to create Sales Orders or Sales Receipts within the POS database.  

3) Additional POS user (optional)
eCC Desktop connects to QB POS as another user (cashier/associate) and will always need maintain that connection. The dedicated eCC Desktop "user" will need to be the Admin user because eCC Desktop will be creating and modifying information within POS. 

Tip: An additional login user of POS will need to be purchased from Intuit directly. 

4) Using QuickBooks Financials (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) with QuickBooks POS
Some businesses use QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise in addition to QuickBooks POS for greater reporting and to utilize features that QuickBooks POS doesn't have. If this is the case, eCC Desktop will still need to connect to QuickBooks POS because that is where the inventory is stored. eCC Desktop will only interact directly with QuickBooks POS.
